bosshogg_hgte Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Sorry, i know i hardly post and the tis disc has been covered before but; broke down last night, 2 hours i pouring rain with a burning smell of melting electrical insulation. In the cold light of day, yes the fusebox by the battery is melted.I will be replacing this but just in case the Alternator is faulty and caused this i wanted to be prepared to remove it. After looking at the unit, maybe a garage is the best bet but i want to know what is involved. So back on track, my TIS disc was damaged by one of my children and cannot be read.If its an ebay thing again then fine but i just thought i would ask. Thanks for looking and hope to hear from anyone soon Galaxy 2.3 2001 Quote
mikej Posted June 8, 2008 Report Posted June 8, 2008 Hi mate regarding you melted fuse box , i had the same issue on mine a few months ago i also have the same car 2.3 2001 galaxy . This it seems is very common however its very simple to rectify a new fuse box can be had from fords or vw (had mine from the vw garage as it was cheaper) for approx Quote
bosshogg_hgte Posted June 8, 2008 Author Report Posted June 8, 2008 Hi Mike, cheers for the advise.I had a look around the forum and did spot the number of people who had experianced this.Got the parts off today so that i can check them against the parts the local dealer will want to sell me. The cable from the alternator is charred and obviously been very hot and the fuse has melted. i was going to clean the terminals but decided to buy new.The cable i took off has the date code from before the car was built so i suppose i should count myself lucky it lasted this long. When it is fixed, i might even loose some of the more fustrating problems with the electrics that i have been having for the last couple of years. A side thought, the AA and RAC should have known about this by now and not just blamed the alternator. Quote
mikej Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Hi again when mine went the fuse had melted all the way through the fuse box before blowing , it was in a hell of a mess . I personally think the issue maybe due to poor conections on the fuses causing high resistance , the fact that the cable has been cooked means its resistance value will also have changed hence the need to replace it , make sure you double check the small nuts that hold down the fuses on the new box , i,m not sure if you can buy this lead from a dealer i didn't even bother asking but like a said any auto spark would do it cheap! mumof4 Posted June 10, 2008 Report Posted June 10, 2008 The op answered his own question. There is a report this post button for a reason  Don't assume the admin read every single post, as sometimes the admin is too busy plotting the downfall of an arrogant little pipsqueak on travian who dared to cross me via IGM. If the MODS and Admin went through the entire technical section post by post, then i would imagine quite a lot of it that had a reference to certain discs like ETKA, TIS and such like, would account for around half. We all know about them, we do not actively go around shouting about it, most of us have one or have owned one, without it most of us wouldnt be able to do what we do when things go wrong. And apart from the OPs original post, and BKs complaint, the disc itself hadnt been mentioned! So, to clarify, the mods and admin have no problem with the OPs first post. Right, i got a few villages to plot the downfall of, back later. Quote
